THE ALASKA WRITERS RETREAT
Alaska basics
-
Using Central Alaska as the midpoint for this weather measurement, the RealFeel is as low as 30 below 0 in Winter, and up to 70 degrees in Summer.
The Alaskan way with weather is to prepare mindfully. Specific fabrics for their intended uses, strategic layering, and forward thinking about activity and body heat are all factors that are considered on a daily basis in this place of relatively extreme temperatures.
-
Alaska has a rich cultural heritage for big indigenous groups of American Indians.
In villages across the vast land of Alaska live groups of Native Americans. In urbanized parts of the state gather people of all ages and stages and live and lead lives that revolve around school, fitness, community, career, and peaceful development of life.
Each town or sub-community tends to have a certain ‘feel’ for it or about it, but that is more of a felt experience than a documented fact. “Vibes”, as they say.
-
Even the most remote places in Alaska have fast food chains and processed foods available to some extent. Simultaneously, Alaska has a large population of humans who live in and of the land, using skills such as hunting and fishing to sustain their families and communities.
There are also fairly accessible large food store chains, such as Fairway, Fred Meyers, and Wal-Mart.
Kosher Food is a unique developing area in Alaska, with Anchorage (the main city) being the place most likely to have a large enough variety of foods with a Kosher label. Local Alaskan Jews often ship kosher food orders to Alaska from Seattle, Washington.

For the nature lover, Alaska is bliss.
The state itself is quite humongous in basic size measurement, and also rolls over hundreds of different systems. sub-systems, and ecological patterns.
Rugged travel is common in Alaska, with groups going into the backcountry in both pre-planned and pioneering adventure routes. Guided travel is also a popular thing in Alaska, especially for people who are new or visiting to Alaska, and want to get an in-depth view of the nature and its locally-known secrets.
With the proper preparation, Alaska is an all-year-round, all-weather, wide-scope travel destination.
